Alimentación, estado nutricional y dinamometría de adultos mayores de un hogar público

Resumen

Introducción: La evaluación de los adultos mayores institucionalizados en cuanto a su estado nutricional, hábitos alimentarios y fuerza prensil es necesaria para mejorar el tratamiento y seguimiento nutricional de este grupo vulnerable. El objetivo fue evaluar la alimentación, el estado nutricional y la fuerza prensil de los adultos mayores que viven en un hogar de ancianos de Asunción entre junio y julio de 2019.

Materiales y métodos: Se desarrolló un trabajo de diseño observacional descriptivo en donde se recabaron datos sociodemográficos, antropométricos, de fuerza prensil, y de cumplimiento de la ingesta de calorías y macronutrientes, con recordatorio de 24 horas por 3 días no consecutivos.

Resultados: Según la valoración del estado nutricional, casi tres cuartos de la población presentó riesgo de malnutrición. El aporte de energía, proteínas y carbohidratos ofrecidos por el menú del hogar cumplía con las recomendaciones de la National Research Council. No obstante, el aporte de grasas se encontraba por debajo de las recomendaciones. Más de la mitad de los adultos mayores presentó fuerza prensil baja según dinamometría.

Conclusiones: A pesar de que el menú ofrecido por el hogar cumplía casi en su totalidad con las recomendaciones dietéticas, un alto porcentaje de la población se encontraba con riesgo de malnutrición y baja fuerza prensil.
