Frecuencia de infección del tracto urinario en gestantes atendidas en el servicio de urgencias del Hospital Distrital de Santa Rita, Paraguay

Introducción: La infección del tracto urinario es una de las complicaciones infecciosas más frecuentes del embarazo. En los hospitales distritales del interior del Paraguay apenas se ha descrito su frecuencia. El objetivo fue describir la frecuencia de infección urinaria registrada entre las gestantes atendidas en urgencias del Hospital Distrital de Santa Rita durante el primer semestre de 2025, con su distribución por edad, trimestre y forma clínica y los antibióticos utilizados.
Materiales y métodos: Estudio observacional, descriptivo y retrospectivo a partir de los registros del sistema HIS-Py. Se revisaron 1700 atenciones, se identificaron 335 gestantes y 38 registros con infección urinaria, resumidos con frecuencias, sin pruebas de hipótesis.
Resultados: La frecuencia de infección urinaria fue del 11,3 % (38 de 335). La edad media fue de 23,1 ± 6,5 años y 25 gestantes (65,8 %) tenían menos de 25 años; el diagnóstico se realizó en el tercer trimestre en 23 casos (60,5 %). La cistitis fue la forma más frecuente (17; 44,7 %), seguida de la bacteriuria asintomática (11; 28,9 %) y la pielonefritis aguda (3; 7,9 %). Se registró tratamiento antibiótico en 32 casos (84,2 %), con la cefixima como fármaco más prescrito. No se halló ningún urocultivo.
Conclusiones: La infección urinaria afectó a cerca de una de cada nueve gestantes atendidas, con predominio de mujeres jóvenes, del tercer trimestre y de la cistitis, y con tratamiento empírico sin respaldo microbiológico. Los hallazgos respaldan el acceso al urocultivo, mejorar el registro y reforzar el cribado de bacteriuria prenatal.
