Comparación de la adherencia de Candida albicans en hilos de seda y poliglactina luego de una exodoncia dentaria

Introducción: Candida albicans forma parte de la microbiota oral normal, pero puede comportarse como patógeno oportunista y causar candidiasis oral cuando se altera el equilibrio microbiano o se compromete la respuesta inmune local, escenario favorecido por heridas quirúrgicas y material de sutura tras la exodoncia. El objetivo fue comparar la adherencia de Candida albicans en hilos de seda y de poliglactina luego de una exodoncia dentaria en pacientes del Hospital General de Villa Elisa, Paraguay, durante 2024.
Materiales y métodos: Estudio observacional, analítico, no experimental y cuantitativo. Se incluyó a 58 pacientes con exodoncia y sutura (30 seda 3.0; 28 poliglactina 3.0). A los 7 días se retiraron hilos de 30 pacientes (15 por grupo) para cultivo en Sabouraud.
Resultados: De 30 analizados, 30 % masculino y 70 % femenino; 37 % de 18–30 años y 63 % de 31–67. Crecimiento de C. albicans: 11/15 seda (74 %) frente a 3/15 poliglactina (20 %).
Conclusiones: Mayor adherencia en seda que en poliglactina, lo que respalda preferir materiales monofilamento o de menor retención de placa en exodoncia.
