Abuso de alcohol y residencia médica en un hospital público

Resumen

Este estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar la existencia de una relación entre el abuso de alcohol y el año de residencia médica cursado por residentes de especialidades troncales en un hospital público durante el año 2019. Se implementó un diseño observacional descriptivo, de corte transversal y prospectivo, con un muestreo probabilístico aleatorizado. Participaron 139 médicos residentes de cirugía general, clínica médica, ginecología y obstetricia, pediatría y medicina familiar que consintieron participar entre el 1 de octubre y el 31 de diciembre de 2019. Se utilizó el cuestionario CAGE para evaluar el abuso de alcohol, considerando dos o más respuestas afirmativas como indicativo de abuso. Los resultados revelaron que el 14 % de los residentes encuestados presentaban consumo de abuso de alcohol. Dentro de este grupo, el 50 % de los casos se concentró en residentes del tercer año, y el 40 % correspondió a residentes de cirugía general. El análisis estadístico demostró una relación significativa entre los años de servicio en la residencia y la presencia de abuso de alcohol (P = 0,01). En conclusión, se observó una asociación estadísticamente significativa entre el año de residencia cursado y la presencia de abuso de alcohol, aunque no se encontró una relación similar al comparar el abuso de alcohol con la especialidad médica específica.
