Edulcorante a base de nopal y stevia como propuesta alimenticia para mejorar los niveles de glucosa y triglicéridos sanguíneos

Introducción: El nopal es una especie originaria de México utilizada como alimento y hierba medicinal, vistas sus propiedades hipoglucemiantes y adelgazantes. Sin embargo, no existe suficiente evidencia científica de estas propiedades. El objetivo del estudio fue demostrar las propiedades hipoglucemiantes e hipolipemiantes del nopal combinado con la stevia como edulcorante natural.
Materiales y métodos: Este fue un estudio de diseño experimental, in vivo. Fueron inducidas a estados hiperglucémicos e hiperlipémicos ratas de la especie Mus musculus por un periodo de 6 días. Luego de la inducción, 2 ratas recibieron por 4 días seguidos la intervención con el edulcorante natural a base de nopal y stevia, previamente elaborado de forma artesanal.
Resultados: Al cabo de 6 días de inducción y 4 días de tratamiento, se pudo comprobar una marcada disminución de la glucemia y el peso corporal en las ratas sometidas al experimento, más un leve descenso del perfil lipídico. El edulcorante elaborado no presentó ningún efecto adverso ni tóxico en las ratas tratadas.
Conclusiones: el nopal fue efectivo para el tratamiento de la hiperglucemia y el descenso de peso corporal en ratas, en un periodo corto de tiempo.
