Abstract

Objective: To describe self-esteem levels in a population of adolescent students from a school in Asunción using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale.

Methods: A quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted among students from 7th grade to 3rd year of secondary education at a school in Asunción, aged 12 to 19 years. The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale was administered, and data were processed with statistical software.

Results: A total of 534 students participated, with a mean age of 14.9 years (median 15). Sex distribution was nearly equal (48.7% female, 49.8% male, 1.5% preferred not to answer). Total self-esteem score showed a mean of 21.6 points (median 22; mode 22; standard deviation 2.7).

Conclusion: In this sample of school adolescents from Asunción, self-esteem scores clustered in a mid-range, without marked sex differences in sample composition. The original design also contemplated comparing self-esteem across subgroups by physical activity and muscular development; that comparison could not be reconstructed from available data and remains an explicit limitation of this report.
