Comparación de la orientación cefálica entre fotografías de perfil y telerradiografías laterales de cráneo

Resumen

Introducción: La posición natural de la cabeza (PNC) estandariza el posicionamiento cefálico en telerradiografías y fotografías de perfil. El objetivo fue comparar la orientación cefálica entre fotografías clínicas de perfil y telerradiografías laterales de cráneo en pacientes de Ortodoncia IV, evaluando el impacto en la clasificación esquelética sagital y en el tercio inferior facial.

Materiales y métodos: Estudio descriptivo, correlacional, no experimental y cuantitativo. Se evaluó a 15 pacientes nuevos con fotografía de perfil y telerradiografía en PNC; se midieron ángulos cefálicos respecto de la vertical verdadera, Wits (vertical verdadera) y posición de labio superior, labio inferior y mentón.

Resultados: Ángulos: 15,66° (DE 6,13) vs 15,33° (DE 4,34); p = 0,83; d = 0,062. Variación cefálica individual 86,7 %; alteraciones clínicamente significativas 20,1 % (7°–12°). Wits sin diferencia grupal (p = 0,826); cambio de clasificación sagital 73 %. Labio superior estable 67 %; variación labio inferior 60 % y mentón 80 %.

Conclusiones: Sin diferencias grupales significativas, la variabilidad individual es clínicamente relevante y respalda estandarizar y complementar ambos registros.
