Introduction: Bottle dance is an emblematic expression of Paraguayan folklore in which dancers balance multiple bottles on the head while performing coordinated movements, with possible effects on postural alignment. The aim was to determine the influence of dance-element weight on the prevalence of postural alterations among folk dancers from Asunción and Greater Asunción during 2024.
Materials and methods: Prospective, cross-sectional, descriptive and correlational non-experimental study. Sample of 72 dancers (purposive non-probability sampling). Sociodemographic questionnaire and static postural assessment in four planes using the APECS application.
Results: Mean age 18.65 years (range 11–52); mean 6 years of practice. In anterior and posterior views, absence of global misalignment predominated, with mild partial alterations of head, shoulders, axillae and pelvis in just over half. Lateral views showed markedly greater misalignment: cervical anteriorization in nearly the entire sample and pelvic tilt in almost all. Pearson correlation between number of bottles and degree of postural alteration r = 0.04.
Conclusions: No severe postural alterations in most dancers, but a tendency toward sagittal misalignment (forward head posture, thoracic kyphosis and lumbar hyperlordosis), without demonstrated relation to bottle number; other factors may contribute.
